What are tigers?

  • The tiger is the largest species of cat on the planet, and it is easily recognized by its black and orange stripes.
  • Since they are mammals, they have warm-blooded bodies, fur, and breastfeed their young. Tigers consume meat because they are carnivores.
  • Tigers are at the top of the food chain because they are apex predators. Hunt tigers; no other animals besides humans!

Facts about tigers

  • Female tigers are known as tigresses & young tigers are known as cubs or whelps.
  • A group of tigers are called an ambush or streak.
  • In the wild, male tigers can grow to be more than 11 feet long (3.3 meters) and weigh more than 660 lbs (300 kg).
  • A tiger's punch might kill you or at the very least break your bones.
  • More than a mile or two kilometers distant, a tiger's roar can be heard.
  • Only half of blind tiger cubs survive after birth. Most of them die from hunger or cold since they are born blind and are unable to keep up; some even get devoured by male tigers to make the tigress available for mating😳!
  • Unlike domestic cats, tigers like playing in and swimming in the water. It has even been reported that one of them can swim 30 kilometers in a single day. They are known to be capable of swimming for several kilometers.
  • Tigers can live for 20 to 25 years in the wild or in captivity, although the majority of them pass away before they are 20.
  • Tigers can also mate with other big cats for example:

o   The hybrid animal produced when a male tiger mates with a female lion is called a tigon.

o   The largest cat species is the tigon, which is a cross between a male lion and a female tiger.

o   Tigons have the potential to grow larger than ligers.

o   A liger stands about six feet tall and is roughly 4.5 feet tall when on all four legs.

o   Tigers' saliva is sterile.

o   Tigers have a top sprint speed of over 60 kph.

o   It smells like buttered popcorn when Tiger pees.

o   Humans are not typically seen as prey by tigers!!

How do tigers hunt?

  • To locate buffalo, deer, wild pigs, and other large species, they hunt at night and may travel great distances.
  • They will also consume smaller creatures including porcupines, lizards, monkeys, and wild boar.
  • Despite being strong and capable of short-distance speed, tigers cannot outrun swift animals like deer. The alternative is that they stalk their target, using stealth to reach near enough to attack from behind.
  • Tigers favor ambush hunting.

Habitat of tigers

  • Tigers are native to Asia, and the majority of them are found in Bhutan, India, China, and Siberia. They can be found in a wide range of habitats, including grasslands, wetlands, snowy pine woods, and jungles.
  • Tigers can survive there as long as there are places for them to hide, sufficient of water, and enough prey to eat.
  • Tigers live alone, as opposed to lions, who dwell in prides. When a mother tiger has pups is the only time you will see tigers cohabitating. Before leaving their mother, the cubs will spend roughly two years living on their own.

Tigers are endangered

  • There are just 3,000–4,000 tigers left in the world. There were more than 100,000 of them around 100 years ago. One factor contributing to the extinction of tigers is human hunting. For their striped fur or when hungry tigers approach their communities, people will hunt and kill tigers. The destruction of their habitat is another factor contributing to the decline of tiger populations. In order to survive and hunt, tigers require a lot of undeveloped land. Tigers have fewer and fewer places to build their homes when forests are cleared for towns and farming.
  • Fortunately, efforts are being made to prevent the extinction of tigers. Tigers can be helped to thrive by preventing poaching, expanding and maintaining their habitats, and educating people on how to coexist peacefully with tigers.
